ATTEND 12 MAY DINNER EVENT
On the evening of Wednesday, 12 May, the Lighted Candle
Society award dinner was attended by an audience of four hundred and thirty-one
individuals. In every way possible the
event was an outstanding success. The
presentation of the annual “Guardian of The Light” award to the Most Reverend
George Neiderauer, Roman Catholic Bishop for the Salt Lake Diocese, was
enthusiastically approved by the attendees.
Mr. Richard Terraci, the President of Family Flix, Inc., gave a report
on the litigation by the motion picture industry in which the industry is
attempting to prohibit the editing of motion pictures to make them acceptable
to families.
A most memorable aspect of the evening involved the presentations
made by Dr. Victor Cline, Ph.D, and Dr. Judith Reisman, Ph.D. The combined messages from Dr. Cline and Dr.
Reisman confirmed with powerful scientific data the addictive nature of
pornography and the destructive impact upon the human brain caused by viewing
pornographic images. Dr. Cline cited
examples from more than thirty years of clinical experience with individuals
experiencing severe psychological impairments caused by their addiction to
pornography. He also cited examples from
literally hundreds of patient cases in which the visual consumption of pornography had resulted in personal and
family tragedies as the addicted individual would find it impossible to
exercise the self-discipline not to act out or engage in the deviant sexual conduct
presented in the pornographic materials.
Although Dr. Cline’s recitation of heart breaking results
caused by pornography left many with a sense of sorrow for the victims of
pornography, he concluded his remarks by discussing the “healing process.” “For both the addict and the abused family
member,” said Dr. Cline, “there is a healing process that can do a great deal
to restore these individuals to a stable and fulfilling life.” Dr. Cline then outlined the specific aspects
of the healing process. “However,” said
Dr. Cline, “I must emphasize that only when the addict is totally committed to
seeking rehabilitation, and is willing to accept the counsel of a trained
therapist and the support of immediate family members will the healing process
be capable of success.”
Dr. Judith Reisman then began her presentation where Dr.
Cline’s had ended. Making reference to
a variety of studies that have been reported in the past year. Dr. Reisman’s
remarkable presentation kept the audience totally captivated. With the use of a number of highly effective
visual aids projected on a huge screen Dr. Reisman enabled the audience to see
and understand the significant scientific research of the last decade regarding
how pornography affects the human brain.
“Because of the remarkable ability to use functional
Magnetic Resonance Imaging,” (MRI) said Dr. Reisman, “we can now actually watch
what is happening in the brain as it processes various visual and auditory
stimuli.” Using data presented in such
highly credible sources as Science Magazine, The Journal of the American
Medical Association, several of

instantly decoded in the brain by children, the unlettered and the
illiterate. We now have the capacity through
the use of the MRI technology to carry out an intense clinical study that will
demonstrate that in all humans the affect of viewing pornography causes the
right hemisphere of the brain to subvert and overpower the left hemisphere
logic processes. The imagery of
pornography fuses the emotional reactions of lust, fear, sex, and violence into
a single physiological reaction that triggers the body to release mind-altering
opiates without the viewer’s informed consent.”
Dr. Reisman termed obscene images as “Erototoxins” that
cause the brain to release endogenous drugs produced within the body. Under her hypothesis the reaction by the
brain to the pornographic material produces a “cocktail” of these drugs
entering the blood stream that causes a “high” similar to that obtained from
the more potent street drugs. The
repeated experiencing of this “high” inevitably results in a literal chemical
addiction to pornography by the viewer.
Once that addiction is confirmed the addict has lost the ability to use
the cognitive reasoning areas of the brain to resist and overcome the
compulsion to experience with real flesh and blood the sexual conduct
represented in the pornographic images.
The result in our society is the tragedy of hundreds of
thousands of abused wives and children who are victimized by the addict who has
lost the capacity to suppress the chemically induced urge to engage in this
conduct.
Dr. Reisman then noted for the audience that the incredible

1. “Viacom’s
(VIA) MTV (music t.v. channel) plans to launch in 2005 an ad-supported cable
entertainment network aimed at gays and lesbians. The network, to be called, LOGO, comes as
gay culture has gone mainstream on TV with gay-themed shows such as NBC”s Will
and Grace, Bravo’s Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and Showtime’s The
L Word.”

television network targeted at lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender viewers
will launched by MTV Networks, a division of Viacom Inc., on February 17,
2005. The new channel will be
advertiser-supported, argeting primarily gays and lesbians, 25-=49, and will
provide a mix of original and acquired programming that is authentic, smart,
inclusive and open-minded.” (emphasis added)
Viacom’s MTV executive offices have announced that they
will also “…use its new LOGO television network for the influential and
affluent gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered market” on the web. It will directly compete with the existing
web site for this same market niche called PlanetOut Partners…
3. DANISH
COMPANY GIVES STAFF FREE INTERNET PORN
A Danish IT company has given all its employees free
subscriptions to internet pornography sites.
LL Media in Nordjylland introduced the idea to stop staff accessing
adult material at work.
The company’s director, Levi Nielsen, believes access
to porn is a natural fringe benefit, like a free phone or a company car. “We know that 80% of all hits on the Internet
are on porn sites. And we can see that
people also surf porn pages during work,” Nielsen told Danish broadcaster DR
Nordjylland.
Nielsen hopes the move will make his staff more relaxed
and more efficient on the job.
4. TRY BEING A
CONSERVATIVE ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS IN
James D. Miller, a professor
of Economics at Smith College is quoted in Forbes of 7 June, 2004, as
follows:
“To give you an idea of the
political atmosphere on campus, in October 2002 several faculty members sent a
petition to the president objecting to an invitation to Ann Coulter, the
conservative pundit, to speak on campus.
No one objected, however, when a porn star gave a how-to talk at
Smith on anal sex.”
5. We have
previously reported on the pornographic content of many videogames. There are preview “teasers” for these games
on the Internet on an all ages web site that contain full nudity and stripping,
and graphic depictions of solicited oral sex.
These “games” combine extreme violence with graphic sexual conduct. There is even an incest based video game sold
under the “dating simulator” label.

with others in your community to distribute materials that are made available
by the LIGHTED CANDLE SOCIETY regarding the danger and the sources of
pornography. Be willing to monitor and
strive to remove any source of pornographic materials that may appear. This would include working with elected city
and county officials, law enforcement officers, local newspapers and merchants,
school officials and civic and religious groups whose united efforts can become
a powerful weapon in preserving the light of moral virtue in your community.
4. HELP TO “HEAL”
THE SICK
Many who have become addicted to
pornography desperately want to be “healed.”
Because of shame and fear they do no know where to find help. There are many worthwhile programs that can
“heal” the individual who has become a victim of addiction to pornography. With the assistance of qualified experts like
